Sectarian attack on the funeral outside Cairo's main cathedral leaves 90 injured and 2 deadAn official from the health ministry confirms that at least 90, including at least 11 policemen, have been injured in the attack by unknown assailants at the Abbasiya Cathedral on Sunday.Two were announced dead by late Sunday; one is not yet identified but the other is Mahrous Hanna Ibrahim (30 years).Clashes erupted on Sunday afternoon outside the Abbasiya Cathedral as hundreds of mourners were attending the funeral for the victims of sectarian clashes that took place on Saturday in Qalyubia governorate, just north of Cairo.On Saturday, according to MENA state news agency, at least four Christians and one Muslims were killed in deadly sectarian clashes after a group of Christian teenagers allegedly painted offensive drawings on the gates of an Al-Azhar (Muslim) institution in the town.The situation further escalated when someone fired a gunshot into the air, killing one boy with a stray bullet, Reuters reported.In the aftermath of the violence, 15 people were arrested and the town was tightly controlled by police forces.Shops belonging to Christians were reportedly smashed by angry protesters. Reuters stated that some Christian and Muslim properties were burned.Mourners exiting the Abbasiya Cathedral funeral on Sunday were first pelted with stones, which they responded to by throwing stones back.
