German Foreign Ministry Spokesman Martin Schaefer on Friday asserted that Egypt is an important and major partner to Germany in the Arab region.
In statements to MENA correspondent here, he added that Egypt's active and viable political role in settling regional crises and disputes is indispensable.
He described Egyptian-German relations as distinguished.
The statements were made on the occasion of an anticipated visit by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Germany early next month at an invitation from German Chancellor Angela Markel.
As for the situation in the Middle East, the spokesman added that his country holds that there is no other alternative than the two-state solution and maintaining peace talks to reach a just and durable peace between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.
He made reference, on this score, to the Gaza reconstruction conference that was hosted by Cairo last October. That conference, he added, attested to the major and important role undertaken by Egypt at the regional level.
