Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Thursday discussed over phone with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov the ongoing efforts to reinstate a cessation of hostilities in Syria as well as guarantees required for resuming political talks between the Syrian warring parties under UN sponsorship.
The contacts made by the foreign minister on the Syrian crisis comes within the framework of Egypt's presidency of the UN Security Council and membership of the International Syria Support Group that is likely to hold a meeting soon with Cairo's participation to extend the truce in Syria and allow the resumption of peace talks in Geneva, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
