Egypt's Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr said Wednesday that deposed President Mohamed Morsi is in a safe place and well treated, but not allowed out for his own safety, official news agency MENA reported. "Morsi is in a safe place and he is being treated with dignity, " MENA quoted Amr as saying. While not completely sure about Morsi's location, Amr asserted he is treated very well, the report added. Last week, Morsi was ousted by the army after millions of people took to the streets to protest his "poor performance" since he took office a year ago. The army then handed over the power to run the country to the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court. At least 51 were killed and more than 450 were injured on Monday in clashes between security forces and supporters of Morsi in the vicinity of the Republican Guards, where the latter believed the deposed president is detained. Amr stressed the violence is unacceptable under all circumstances, while assuring the Egyptian authorities welcome peaceful protests.
