
Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood (MB) appointed Mahmoud Ezzat as temporary new leader on Tuesday, after its General Guide Mohamed Badie was arrested, official MENA news agency reported. In a statement published on the MB's Freedom and Justice party website, Ezzat, the deputy of the former general guide, was announced as the new chief according to the group's internal regulations Article Four. "In the absence of the general guide either for travelling abroad, or for being sick or in emergency cases, his deputy is entitled with his responsibilities," according to the article. Mohamed Badie was arrested by police in Cairo in the early hours of Tuesday, and transferred to Mazraah prison in Torah prisons' complex, where former President Hosni Mubarak and his two sons are detained.
