Counselor Hesham Barakat was sworn in on Wednesday before Egyptian interim President Adli Mansour as prosecutor-general, succeeding Abdel-Maguid Mahmoud who resigned Tuesday, official MENA news agency reported. Barakat, head of the technical bureau of the Cairo Court of Appeal, was appointed after in-deep consultations between Mansour and the Supreme Judiciary Council. Former Prosecutor-General Abdel-Maguid Mahmoud resigned Tuesday from his post due to feeling "uneasiness" about the prosecution's future decisions towards "those who sacked him before," referring to some figures related to the Muslim Brotherhood, with which ousted President Mohamed Morsi was affiliated.
