An Egyptian blogger who criticized the government and military allegedly has been sent to a mental hospital, a move health officials said is "unacceptable." The government's referral of Maikel Nabil Sanad to the Abbaseyya Mental Hospital is "a dangerous and unacceptable affair," a statement from Basma Abdel Aziz of Egypt's General Secretariat of Mental Health said. Nabil is serving a three-year jail term for insulting the Egyptian military, Bikyamasr.com reported Monday. In March he made a post to his "Son of Ra" blog entitled, "The people and the military were never one hand." "The incarceration of an individual whose charge is having a different view of the situation in the country is morally and professionally unacceptable," Basma Abdel Aziz said in his statement. In prison, Nabil has been on a hunger strike since Aug. 23. Nabil has also received criticism for his support of normalization of relations with Israel.
