Egyptian PM receives report on Ethiopia's dam technical committee

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab received on Saturday a report from Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazy to follow up the outcomes of meetings held by the tripartite technical committee on the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

The minister provided Mahlab with updates on the seventh round of talks held in Khartoum and contractual details related to the two firms entrusted to work together on all water, hydraulic, economic, social and environmental studies on the Ethiopian dam.

The latest meeting resulted in a common ground regarding the two firms, Mohgazy told Mahlab, saying, the ministers of Sudan and Ethiopia showed willingness to achieve benefits for all sides.

The committee wrapped up talks in Khartoum after reaching a compromise to settle pending issues that were not handled in the previous round of talks, which was held in Cairo.

The compromise precisely sets 70 percent of tasks to the main French consultancy office and the remaining 30 percent to the subordinate Dutch office, he said.

The two offices will be required to submit a report to the committee that comprises 12 experts from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia.
