Any stance taken by Egypt at the UN Security Council is propelled by the country's national interests and its commitment to defending Arab and African interests, said Assistant Foreign Minister for Multilateral Affairs and International Security Hisham Badr.
Badr told MENA that the Egyptian delegation has been adopting during the first nine months of the UNSC membership an approach totally independent of major powers.
He added that Egypt's membership gave it a chance to closely interact with international crisis management mechanisms.
Boosting anti-terror efforts in Libya and pushing forward political process in the unrest-hit country is on the top of Egypt's priorities in the UNSC, the diplomat said.
He also noted that Egypt, through its membership, worked for deepening partnership between the UN and the AU as regards the approach of addressing conflicts in the black continent.
