Egypt's Tahrir square calm after revolution celebrations

A state of calm spread through the center of the Egyptian capital in Tahrir square, following the end of events commemorating the July 23, 1952 revolution, which took place in attendance of political party leaders and representatives. Former presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabahi has participated in the celebration as well as a number of members of the family of late President Gamal Abdel Nasser, who symbolizes the revolutions' leadership. According to the Middle East News Agency (MENA), participants chanted in demand for the fall of religious and military currents off the political arena, in addition to transforming Egypt into a real civil state and achieving the revolution's goals which are similar to those of the January 25, 2011 revolution. No conflict has been reported between participants and protesters in Tahrir rallying for the cancellation of the Supplemental Constitutional Declaration, who resumed their activity which had been halted prior to Ramadan.
