El-Araby de Mistura agree Geneva I communiqué only peaceful solution for Syria crisis

Arab League Secretary General Nabil el Araby and UN envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura agreed that the Geneva I communiqué implementation is the only peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis.

In press statements, he said the communiqué issued in 2012 helps the Syrian conflict to cease.

Two other complementary offers appeared now, said de Mistura.

The first is to form a working group to discuss the future of the Syrians as well as combating terror, he said, noting that no terror combat can win except after reaching a peaceful solution.

The institutions of the Syrian state need to survive to avoid the collapse of the state institutions evident in Libya, Iraq and Somalia.

Security and military issues need also to be discussed by the Syrians themselves, he made it clear.

El Araby, for his part, said the Syrians face an unprecedented crisis, the worst in the 21st century.

The UN envoy has discussed with the Arab ministers during their meetings in Cairo the target of the UN and the Arab League; i.e. the implementation of the Geneva I communiqué to end infighting, he added.
