EP to participate in celebrations for adoption of new Tunisian constitution

European Parliament Vice-President Isabelle Durant will represent the European Parliament in Tunis on Friday in the celebrations for the adoption of the new constitution in Tunisia.She will be replacing European Parliament President Martin Schulz for this visit, said an EP statement today.Schulz last week had sent his warmest congratulations to the Tunisian people after voting overwhelmingly for the new constitution."I salute the spirit of compromise and consensus and sense of responsibility that prevailed over partisan interests. I pay tribute to the strong commitment of all political and social forces in the process of transition to a democratic Tunisia," Schulz had said in his statement."Many challenges lie ahead for the new government of Mehdi Jomaa starting with the economic recovery and the organization of future elections. Tunisia has major assets and can count on the full support of the European Union and the European Parliament, he stated.
