Erekat: Kerry hasn't present official plan over peace deal with Israel

US Secretary of State John Kerry did not present an official plan over a possible peace agreement with Israel, top Palestinian negotiator said Sunday, adding any settlement should be based on UN resolutions. Saeb Erekat hoped the US-proposed framework agreement would comply with the international law, international letitimacy, and relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council (UNSC) and UN General Assembly (UNGA). Kerry "is still in the process of proposing ideas ... He did not present written documents ... these ideas are part of ongoing discussion between the American and Palestinian parties on one side and the Israeli and American parties on the other," Erekat said in a statement to KUNA over the phone. Erekat refused to comment on Kerry's statement he made yesterday that a progress has been achieved in negotiations. "Any question about the progress should be directed to the Americans," he said. "We have asked Secretary Kerry to work on halting (Jewish) settlement, the destruction of (Palestinian) houses and stopping the Israeli unilateral measures in order to give the peace process a real chance," he said. Erekat rejected any interim agreement with the Israelis. "No one will benefit from the peace process between the Palestinian and Israeli sides but our Palestinian people, and no one will lose but our own people," added the chief negotiator. Erekat said Kerry, who is making his 10th visit to the region in less than a year, would return to the region in several days. He hoped Kerry would have a plan that would end the Israeli occupation. "This should take place through a comprehensive peace agreement, that takes into consideration all final status issues without exception, and they are Al-Quds, settlements, borders, (Palestinian) refugees, water, security and the release of prisoners," he said. Erekat noted that Kerry would meet with members of the Arab peace process follow-up committee in Paris on January 12. He lambasted at the Israeli government which was carrying out policies undermining the peace process.
