Erekat urges international community to stop Israeli settlement activities

Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat urged on Monday the international community to force the Israeli government to stop its settlement activities in all the Palestinian territories.

Erekat, a member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), made the appeal during his meeting with the South African president's envoy to the Middle East Zola Skweyiya and his accompanying delegation.

Halting these activities should include the East Jerusalem, he said, demanding the release of all Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails.

He also called for accepting a two-state solution as a step to a credible peace process.

Erekat lauded South Africa's stances supportive of the Palestinian cause and the establishment of an independent state within the borders of 1967 with Al-Quds as its capital.
