EU attests Egypt's progress in combating terror under Sisi

Egypt has realized great progress in the field of combating terror under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and the incumbent government, the EU ambassador here said.

In statements late Tuesday on the fringe of Europe Day celebration, Head of European Union Delegation to Egypt, Ambassador James Moran, said International Transparency has rated Egypt as number 20 among countries fighting terror.

Concerning his assessment of the developments in Egypt and the coming parliamentary elections, he said there is a wise justification for delaying the elections, hoping that the elections would be held as soon as possible.

He added that the elections are a fundamental part of the roadmap which the EU backs.

As for sending European monitors during the Egyptian parliamentary elections, he said the EU is ready to send monitors, but the elections were deferred.

Concerning the flow of immigrants from Egypt and north African state to Europe over the deteriorating economic conditions, he said Europe is not concerned about Egyptian immigrants, but it faces difficulties with other African states.

As for European assistance agreed during the recent economic conference in Sharm el Sheikh, he said European companies and banks have started to pump investments and extend loans, he said.
