European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton arrived Tuesday in Lebanon where she will meet with the country’s top officials. Ashton, who is on a tour of the Middle East, arrived at Rafik Hariri International Airport from Amman, Jordan, at around 8 a.m. She launched her visit with talks at the Grand Serail with Prime Minister Najib Mikati at 8.30 a.m. She will later hold talks with President Michel Sleiman as well as other officials, including Social Affairs Minister Wael Abu Faour, before holding a news conference at Beirut's airport in the afternoon. Ashton toured a Syrian refugee camp in Jordan Monday and held talks with King Abdullah II on the first leg of her five-day visit to the region. She is expected to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday. From DailyStar
