EU Commission pledges€165m for Syria efforts

EU Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response Kristalina Georgieva announced pledges worth EUR 165 million (USD 224 mln) for Syrian humanitarian efforts. She described the crisis as "biggest humanitarian catastrophe in our history," and said that the "EU was providing the amount as humanitarian right. The crisis, which has dragged on and has taken a regional spectrum, requires an increase of humanitarian assistance and further financial aid for neighbouring nations who are accepting incoming Syrian refugees. She also urged the importance of complying to Security Council resolutions on providing security for civilians during times of conflict within Syria.
