EU High Representative Catherien Ashton on Tuesday "strongly condemned" the attack on an UNMISS (UN mission in South Sudan) convoy near Gumuruk in Jonglei state, South Sudan, on Tuesday which resulted in the death of five UN peacekeepers, two civilian staff and at least five additional civilians. She called on the Government of South Sudan to conduct a full investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice, said Michael Mann, spokesman for Ashton, in a press statement. "The High Representative deplores the on-going conflict in Jonglei and urges all armed groups to respect the Government of South Sudan's appeal to lay down their weapons and to settle their differences by peaceful means. She also reiterates her strong support for UNMISS," he added.
