EU condemns Copenhagen attack

The European Union and Belgium have condemned the attack during a free speech conference in the Danish capital Copenhagen late on Saturday, as a result of which one person died.
"Once again Europe is shocked by what appears to be another brutal terrorist attack targeted at our fundamental values and freedoms, including the freedom of expression," said the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, in a statement.
"Our determination to fight all kinds of extremism and terrorism is only strengthened by such attacks. This determination was confirmed by all EU leaders at our meeting in Brussels only two days ago. We will press forward with our new agreed priorities in the fight against terrorism. We will face this threat together," he added.
On his part, Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders condemned "the terrorist attack apparently perpetrated against the Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks and the French Ambassador Franأ§ois Zimeray ." Reynders in a statement affirmed that "Belgium stands united with Denmark in defense of freedom of expression and against violence. Belgium will make all possible efforts to help the Danish authorities find the perpetrators so that they can be prosecuted." Two people have been killed and five injured in twin shootings in the Danish capital, with one attack targeting a cultural center hosting a debate on Islam and free speech.
