EU declines to comment on Obama statement on Iran

The EU Tuesday declined to comment on statements made by US President Barack Obama yesterday that Iran should agree to freeze sensitive nuclear activity for at least ten years if it wants to make a deal with the US.
"The EU does not comment on ongoing negotiations," an EU spokesperson for foreign affairs told KUNA.
"We face a historical opportunity, a few weeks ahead of the deadline for our E3/EU +3 (China, Russia, US plus France, Germany and the UK) talks. We should not miss this opportunity," said the spokesperson speaking on condition of anonymity.
"The EU is committed to continue diplomatic efforts to seek a comprehensive solution to the Iranian nuclear issue," added the spokesperson.
Negotiations between the five permanent members of the UNSC plus Germany and Iran on the nuclear issue are continuing in Switzerland this week with a deadline of 31 March for an interim agreement.
The deadline for a final and comprehensive agreement on Iran's nuclear programme is 30 June.
