EU :Non-closure of Guantanamo is ''shamful"

EU Commissioner responsible for Home Affairs, Cecilia Malmstrom has said that the non-closure of the Guantanamo detention camp by the United States is ''shameful''. Speaking to reporters here Friday, Cecilia Malmstrom said,''It is shamful that Guantanamo is still open, and people did not face a legal trial, and we continue to remind our American friends that he should be close." US President Barack Obama has pledged to close the camp a few days after taking office in January 2009, but failed to meet the one-year deadline he set himself. The US administration has sought to find countries willing to receive dozens of prisoners scheduled to be released.
