European Union ambassadors began a meeting here on Monday to discuss latest developments in Egypt, co-ordinate their position and take possible measures, EU sources said. The meeting is expected to end at 1 p.m. local time (11:00 GMT), said the sources to KUNA, without giving any further details. On Sunday, the EU said it would continue efforts to end violence and return to the democratic process in Egypt, and also, review ties with Cairo. "In cooperation with its international and regional partners, the EU will remain firmly engaged in efforts to promote an end to violence, resumption of political dialogue and return to a democratic process," said European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, in a joint statement. "To this effect, together with its Member States, the EU will urgently review in the coming days its relations with Egypt and adopt measures aimed at pursuing these goals," it said.
