EU pledges to support Tunisia in security, economy fields

The European Union (EU) promised Monday to boost political, economic and security support for Tunisia to complete its democratic transformation and to achieve development and stability, Italian AKI news agency reported.

An EU statement said the union plans to help train Tunisian security forces on tactics to better control their borders and secure key tourist sites.

EU foreign affairs head Federica Mogherini and foreign ministers met Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid in Brussels earlier in the day.

Mogherini said both sides were looking at border controls, preventing youth radicalization and improving trade ties to help the economy.

"We support reforms and we want to form a real partnership so that Tunisia remains a model for the future in the region," she concluded.
