European Council President Donald Tusk said on Thursday that the EU state members have failed to reach consensus on the proposed introduction of mandatory quotas for migrants.
“I can understand those who want this voluntary mechanism, but they will only be credible if they give precise and significant pledges by the end of July at the latest," The Independent cited Tusk as saying.
"Solidarity without sacrifice is pure hypocrisy and now we don't need empty declarations on solidarity, but only dates and numbers."
The proposed mandatory quotas foresaw the relocation and resettlement of migrants from Italy and Greece to other EU countries, so that all member states share the burden of the refugee influx equally.
