EUPOL COPPS hands over traffic equipment for Palestinian police

EUPOL COPPS police advisers handed over traffic equipment to Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) to enhance the capabilities of traffic policing in West Bank districts and to support their daily operational work, said a EUPOL COPPS press release on Wednesday.The new equipment, which include plastic cones, reflective safety vests, traffic signs, flash lights headlights and other necessary tools vital to managing traffic, are needed for Uniform Police (Uniform and Traffic Police) to safely run and investigate road traffic accidents.The traffic equipment were preceded by a specialised course in 2013 that was executed and funded by EUPOL COPPS and targeted 229 Uniformed Police officers to take part in traffic policing.The end goal of the whole project is to ensure that the front line operational administrations are well trained and adequately equipped to become a modern a well-functioning police service.PCP officers will now be able to collect necessary information to investigate cars' accidents, prepare the necessary incidents' reports, assess the reason/conditions of the traffic accidents, facilitate flow of traffic and carry out regular vehicle checks.The new equipment will help in cutting down the number of casualties of road traffic accidents in the occupied Palestinian territories and to create a safe road environment to Palestinian motorists. PCP's annual report has revealed that 142 Palestinians died and 7,611 others were injured in 142 traffic accidents in 2013.
