European parliament condemns attacks in Iraq

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton Wednesday condemned "in the strongest terms the horrific terrorist attacks that took the lives of many innocent victims across Iraq on Monday." "These acts are perpetrated by those trying to promote sectarian tensions and undermine Iraq's stability. I urge all Iraqi political and religious leaders to promote a spirit of reconciliation between their constituencies and communities," she said in a statement. The European Union remains committed to supporting Iraq in its efforts to achieve lasting peace, added Ashton.
