Ex-Chadian justice minister implicated in corruption

 Chad's ex-justice minister Me Jean-Bernard Padare has been implicated in corruption and embezzlement of funds meant for acquiring a storage facility of files for the ex-Security and Documentation Ageny (DDS), a police agency during the regime of former dictator Hissen Habre, according to official sources. Sources of the Chadian Ministry for Promotion of Good Governance on Tuesday said the former minister failed to account for a section of the 10.2 million CFA Francs (21,000 U.S. dollars) that had been set aside for the acquisition of the storage facility. According to the investigation report, it was discovered that embezzlement of funds occurred through connivance of ex-justice minister and the director for civil affairs in the office of the president, Ahmat Mahamat Bachir. "To ensure that the Chadian state gets justice and that the whole truth on this matter is known, the ministry for promotion of good governance has forwarded a complaint against Jean-Bernard Padere to the anti-corruption authorities," the ministry said. Padare was sacked from government in December 2013 without any official explanation, while Bachir was dismissed from his position last week.
