Ex-minister of justice elected Madagascar parliament speaker

Madagascar's former minister of justice of the transition Christine Razanamahasoa was elected president of the Malagasy National Assembly (parliament) on Tuesday. Razanamahasoa from the political platform MAPAR was elected as the first woman to chair the lower house of parliament since the Indian Ocean island country won its independence in 1960. Christine replaced the president of the congress of the transition, Mamy Rakotoarivelo, who came from the movement of former president Marc Ravalomanana. Rakotoarivelo had been at the chair of the lower chamber since 2009. The National Assembly is set to elect 12 vice presidents, two questors and standing committees on Wednesday.
