Fiji will send 318 more servicemen to the Syrian Golan Heights to beef up the peacekeeping mission deployed there, Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said. Speaking at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Saturday, Bainimarama said Fiji had been asked to send 318 soldiers to the Golan Heights on June 22, in addition to the 192 soldiers already deployed in Iraq and 350 on the Sinai Peninsula. Over the past two days, 182 Fijian soldiers have arrived at the Golan Heights, he said. Lavrov said Russia supports the presence of Fijian peacekeepers at the Golan Heights, the Voice of Russia reported. "As you know, we also offered our services to beef up the peacekeeping mission at the Golan. We definitely support your peacekeepers. We know you have a very rich experience in this field," he said.
