First session in Mubarak appeal against criminal charges adjourns

Egypt's Cassation Court adjourns to 13 January the hearing on the appeal filed by ousted president Hosni Mubarak and his former minister of interior Habib El-Adly against their life sentences for failing to stop the killing peaceful protesters during the initial days of the January 25 Revolution. Sunday was the first session into the appeal, where the lawyer of both defendants stated the evidence used in the trial that sentenced his clients was "flawed." Only El-Adly attended the trial, with Mubarak notably absent. News circulating in the media claims that a fall caused Mubarak to sustain a minor fracture in his hip and bruises on his skull. Mubarak was sent to Tora Prison in June after being convicted. For months during his trial he stayed at the International Medical Centre, a military hospital on a highway leading out of Cairo towards Ismailiya.
