Fisherman missing off Japan's Kyoto

A fisherman went missing early Monday morning after he fell overboard while fishing off the western Japanese prefecture of Kyoto, coast guard officials said. According to Japan's Coast Guard, the 28-year-old fisherman fell into the sea about 28 kilometers from the coast of Kyotango City of the prefecture minutes before 2:30 a.m. local time, when he was catching crabs with four other crew members on board a fishing boat belonging to a fisheries cooperative of Fukui Prefecture, central Japan. A spokesperson for the coast guard told Xinhua that the fisherman with no life jacket slipped and fell into the sea when the 44-ton boat rolled heavily in the waters. Coast Guard patrol vessels are still searching for the missing man in nearby waters.
