Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will meet with European Council President Herman Van Rompuy at the upcoming 14th China-European Union (EU) summit, to discuss economic cooperation, according to a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman on Thursday. European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso will attend the summit scheduled for Oct. 25 in Tianjin. Spokeswoman Jiang Yu said at the daily press briefing that both sides will exchange views on the all-round strategic relationship, development, fiance and trade, cooperation in the cultural field as well as topics viewed as important by G20 leaders. Both China and Europe will cooperate to face challenges and deepen all-round cooperation in order to keep a strong, sustainable, and balanced economic growth amid the European debt crisis, Jiang said. She also noted that the China-EU relationship has been developing well with high-level communications from both sides held frequently. China and the EU have held dialogues in all fields and made fruitful achievements. Relations between the two sides are now facing an important opportunity for further cooperation, Jiang said. "With the joint efforts from both sides, I hope the summit can help increase mutual trust and promote wide cooperation in bilateral and multilateral affairs," Jiang said. At the briefing, she also noted that both China and the EU should send positive messages on tackling challenges, which would not only meet both sides' common interests, but also be conducive to the recovery of world economy.
