The Romanian prime minister, the former Uruguayan president and the Nepali deputy prime minister have said the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is of great significance not only for China but also for the rest of the world. During their respective interviews with Xinhua, the three leaders also said major guiding principles set by the congress demonstrate that China not only focuses on its own future development, but also actively shoulders responsibilities of promoting global development. Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta said China plays the role of a world power in economy and politics. The role China plays on the world stage is positive, and the 18th congress further displays the CPC adopts a responsible attitude towards its own people and all mankind as well, he said. In the 21st century, all countries face various challenges in areas such as economic development, development patterns and improving people's living standards, Ponta said. Through its own practices China has proved the development patterns could be varied and that the key is the people get what they expect, he said, stressing that the development pattern China adopts and plans it lays out for the future are "correct." Former Uruguayan President Julio Maria Sanguinetti said China's achievements in recent years have attracted worldwide attention and the Chinese people have seen and taken pride in the progress the country has made. "After the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China will continue to progress from one success to another," Sanguinetti said. When asked about what impact the 18th CPC congress would have on China's economy, Sanguinetti said, "No country has made economic achievements so great as China did in such a short time. All these achievements benefit from the policy of reform and opening-up." He said the 18th congress report proposes to firmly push forward reform and opening up, which will further liberate and develop productivity, and make China more competitive in the international market. Narayan Kaji Shrestha, deputy prime minister of Nepal, said China's emergence as the world's major economic and political power is impossible without the CPC's leadership. He said the reason why the CPC could accomplish so much is that it can combine the basic principles of Marxism-Leninism with the specific practice in China to suit the country's conditions.
