Foreign Minister: international community should keep promises about establishing Palestinian state

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry delivered Egypt's word in the inaugural session of a Paris-hosted ministerial meeting on the Middle East peace process on Friday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said in a statement.

The minister's speech, he added, focused on the history of the peace process, as well as efforts exerted by the international community to reach a settlement to the Palestinian cause.

Shoukry stressed that the international community has to keep its promises with regard to establishing a Palestinian state with which the Israelis coexist peacefully.

Shoukry further warned of repeating the utterance that the status quo is the best option to deal with the Middle East peace process during the current period, Abu Zeid noted.

Shoukry also cited statements by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi about a mutual understanding that could be reached in the region after finding a real settlement to the Palestinian issue, stressing that that should meet the aspirations of the Palestinian and Israeli peoples and pave the way for just and comprehensive peace.

Shoukry also urged the United States, Russia and European countries to cooperate with countries in the region to revive the stalled Middle East peace process, Abu Zeid pointed out. 

Shoukry concluded his word by urging the international community to shoulder its historic responsibilities, noting that it has to organize its relations in a way that allows for an effective handling of common challenges.
