
The Foreign Ministry tasked Egyptian ambassador to Cyprus with holding immediate contacts with the Cypriot Foreign Ministry to stand on the latest developments in the EgyptAir flight that was hijacked on Tuesday with 56 passengers, seven crew members and a security guard on board.
A spokesman for the ministry Counselor Ahmed Abo Zeid said that the Egyptian ambassador is currently participating in the meeting held by the Cypriot Foreign Ministry in this regard, underlining that the control tower at Larnaca Airport had contacts with the plane's pilot.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri is currently en route to Washington to attend the Nuclear Security Summit, the spokesman said. The minister will have contacts with his Cypriot counterpart upon arrival at Washington Dulles International Airport, he added.
The foreign ministry is closely following up the situation and will immediately announce any developments related to this matter, the spokesman said.
