France on Monday condemned a terrorist attack against a school Sunday in the Gujba district of Nigeria where at least 40 students were killed by gunmen and an ensuing fire in the building. The French Foreign Ministry said the attack was "odious and cowardly" and it sent condolences to relatives of the victims. "In these tragic circumstances, France recalls its commitment in the fight against terrorism and reaffirms its solidarity with the Nigerian government and people," the Foreign Ministry statement said. The attacks are being blamed on the Boko Haram radical Islamist group which has been waging an increasingly violent campaign against the Nigerian authorities.
