The French authorities on Wednesday strongly condemned the suicide bombing that killed dozens of people in the Nigerian town of Kano and Paris said it would support Nigeria in the fight against terrorism. A Foreign Ministry statement said that France "expressed condolences to the families and relatives of the victims." French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius visited Nigeria on March 16 and gave a message of support to the Nigerian authorities who have been fighting a lengthy war against extremist groups, notably Boko Haram, an Islamist radical group that has carried out dozens of attacks and kidnappings. Severn French people are currently being held by this group or an offshoot known as Ansaru. France said on Wednesday that "it reaffirmed its solidarity with Nigeria in the fight it is waging against terrorism."
