French President Francois Hollande called on EU leaders to lift the arms embargo on the Syrian opposition. Speaking to the press prior to the EU summit, President Hollande underlined that they wanted the arms embargo on the Syrian opposition to end as they wanted to show they are ready to support the Syrian opposition. "We have to place pressure on the Syrian regime. We need to go forward. I will talk about this to my European counterparts," Hollande stressed. "I am in favor of a political solution in Syria. However, we need to send a message to the Syrian regime by lifting the arms embargo on the Syrian opposition," Hollande emphasized. Meeting the British Prime Minister David Cameron prior to the EU summit, President Hollande indicated that they would work with Britain in lifting the arms embargo on the Syrian opposition.
