
French Labor Minister Francois Rebsamen presented his resignation during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday after being elected mayor of the eastern French city of Dijon, the government's spokesman Stephane Le Foll announced.
"Labor minister resigned. His resignation will be effective when the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister will conduct the replacement process," Le Foll said.
Rebsamen is a close ally of the Socialist leader Francois Hollande.
Named in April 2014 to take in charge a sensitive portfolio of unemployment, the 64-year-old minister pledged to start lowering jobless claims by the end of 2015 betting on recovering economy set at 1 percent.
