French minister hopes Sisi would partake in signing Paris agreement in New York

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Tuesday with French Environment Minister Segolene Royal who voiced hope that the Egyptian leader would attend the signing of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change in New York on April 22.

During Tuesday's meeting, President Sisi congratulated the French minister for taking over the presidency of the UN climate talks in succession of former French foreign minister Laurent Fabius, presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef said. 

"Egypt is looking forward to having a role in the international efforts aiming at financing renewable energy projects that will meet the aspirations of Africa," Sisi said at the meeting.

The president stressed the importance that the donor countries would fulfill their commitments mentioned in the Paris agreement, including the allocation of 10 billion dollars to finance a renewable energy initiative in Africa.

He hailed France's pledge of two billion dollars to contribute to financing the imitative.

Sisi noted that the African countries are hoping that their renewable energy sector would be supported, given that Africa contributed the least to the climate change and was the most affected at the same time. 

For her part, the French minister stressed that she paid great attention to Africa and that she would keep up mobilizing resources to finance the African initiative of the renewable energy and determine the projects that would be carried out to provide clean energy in Africa.
