
Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs received today in his office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visiting United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers, Gabriela Knaul. The visit comes within the implementation of recommendations accepted by the U.A.E. during the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) report to the Human Rights Council in Geneva. During the meeting, Gargash and Gabriela Knaul exchanged views on a number of issues related to human rights and the laws enforced in the country which ensure the protection of rights, criminal justice systems as well as its working mechanism in cooperation and coordination with the judicial authorities. Mr. Gargash was informed about the proposals pertaining to developing and enhancing independence of judiciary. Dr. Abdul Rahim Yousef Al Awadi, Assistant Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs attended the meeting.
