Gaza Strip became completely isolated from the world on Monday morning after Egyptian, Palestinian and Israeli decisions to close the borders and tunnels in the wake of the attack on a border checkpoint in Rafah in Sinai which killed at least 16 officers last night. An Egyptian security source said the Rafah border crossing with Gaza had been closed indefinitely, while the Palestinian government in Gaza closed all tunnels between the Strip and Egypt, and the Israeli authorities informed the Palestinians to close Karm Abu Salem crossing until further notice. The Rafah crossing is the only outlet for the Gaza Strip to the outside world. More than 1500 citizen move through the crossing everyday. Karm Abu Salem crossing is used to transefere about 50% of the goods and the needs of the sector, including the Qatari and industrial fuel needed for power plant, while the tunnels to Egypt is used by Palestinians to avoid to overcome the effects of the Israeli blockade.
