
Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdel Latif bin Rashid Al Zayany has discussed with UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed the latest developments in Yemen.
The meeting dwelt on beefing up cooperation and coordination between the GCC and the UN to deliver aid to the Yemenis across the nation.
The two sides also highlighted the importance of commitment to the humanitarian truce that was announced by the Arab coalition in response to a request placed by Yemeni President Abd Rabbou Mansour Hadi.
They also discussed means to give a push to the political process in Yemen on the basis of the GCC initiative and UN Security Council Resolution No. 2216.
According to Yemeni government, Houthi rebels started artillery shelling almost immediately after the truce went into effect at midnight Sunday.
