Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) Dr Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani has praised the successful visit by HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani to the Gaza Strip. Dr Al Zayani, in a statement today, described the visit of HH the Emir as historic since it is the first visit by an Arab leader after the unjust siege imposed by Israel on the Gaza Strip. The GCC Secretary General said the visit of HH the Emir to the Gaza Strip represented an announcement of the break of the political and economic siege imposed by Israel on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, as well as confirmed the State of Qatar’s support for the Palestinian people through the implementation of a range of development projects necessary for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. He expressed the hope that the Palestinian leaders would use the results of this visit in upholding the unity and solidarity of the Palestinian people to restore their legitimate rights and establish their independent state on their national soil, adding that this was what HH the Emir called for.
