GCC chief praises Kuwait's allocation of land lot for crisis management control

GCC Secretary General Abdullatif Al-Zayani praised Monday the State of Kuwait for allocating a land lot to build the GCC center for crisis management, designed to deal with threats facing the region. One of the Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) priorities is to address "threats facing the region either natural or man-made," said Al-Zayani. He was speaking to reporters after a meeting of the 10th Ministerial Committee tasked with following up implementation of resolutions related to common action among the six GCC countries. The center, he added, would be affiliated to the GCC Secretariat and would be mandated with predicting and assessing threats, how to face them and recovery. He said the ministerial committee usually meet before the GCC summit to review all resolutions that were implemented. The next committee meeting will be held next Wednesday and participants will prepare the agenda of the next GCC summit, due in Kuwait in the first half of next month, he said. On transformation of GCC into a union, Al-Zayani said the union's initiative of Saudi Arabia's king Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, which was welcomed by the other GCC countries, would be part of the upcoming agenda. Al-Zayani commended outcome of a meeting between leaders of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The GCC chief, meanwhile, welcomed the Iranian nuclear agreement because it would contribute to regional security and stability.
