GCC PMs meet German counterpart, discuss array of issues

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid, along with Prime Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, met with the German Prime Minister Guido Westerwelle to discuss an array of issues of common interest. The meeting took place on the fringes of the United Nations General Assembly's 67th session currently held in New York. The GCC Secretary General Abdul Latif Bin Rashid Al Zayani described the meeting with the German official as "important" to reflect on the strong bilateral ties between Germany and the GCC, Sheikh Al-Khalid told KUNA on Tuesday, after the meeting. Germany is one of the major European Union countries that has created mutual commercial and economic partnerships with the GCC countries, he added The two sides have discussed all issues of common interest such as the Yemeni and Syrian situations, the Iranian nuclear file, and the Middle East peace process in general. Al-Zayani commented on the Syrian situation, saying that the Syrian people are the ones suffering from the indecisiveness of the UN Security Council because Russia and China have exercised their veto three times since the beginning of the Syrian crisis. He hoped that the joint UN/Arab envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi would carry out his "difficult" mission successfully in bringing peace to the Syrian people who have been suffering ongoing bloodshed and violence.
