The Tbilisi City Court, which declined pre-trial detention, on Sunday ruled to suspend Tbilisi mayor Gigi Ugulava from his mayoral authority. The court ordered Gigi Ugulava to post 50,000 Georgian laris ( about 29,000 U.S. dollars) as bail. Gigi Ugulava was charged with misappropriating and embezzling 48.18 million laris of municipal funds to fund the then ruling United National Movement Party with its events between 2011 and 2012. The prosecutor office demanded to use pre-trial detention as a preventive measure. If convicted, such activity can be penalized by imprisonment of between seven and 11 years.
