Georgian legislature overrides presidential vetoes again

The Georgian parliament voted late Friday to override two presidential vetoes, bringing the number of such nullifications to four since the current legislature was installed in October. The parliament on May 31 passed two bills concerning respectively the country's public broadcasting board of trustees and the appointment of members to the energy regulation commission. President Mikheil Saakashvili later vetoed them. But in the Friday vote, 94 lawmakers in the 150-seat unicameral legislature chose to override the president's vetoes. Georgian parliament speaker Davit Usupashvili is expected to sign the two bills into law. The previous two overrides concerned an amnesty bill and a bill about judicial reform. The two legislations have been signed into law by Usupashvili.
