Former German chancellor Helmut Schmidt, 96, was released Sunday from a hospital where he had been treated for dehydration during a summer heatwave.
"Mr Schmidt was released minutes ago," a spokesman for the Sankt Georg hospital in Schmidt's northern home city of Hamburg told AFP. "He is feeling well again."
Schmidt -- a Social Democrat who was chancellor from 1974-1982 and is still active as an author, publisher and commentator -- had been admitted to the hospital on Friday.
German media including the Bild and Hamburger Abendblatt newspapers said Schmidt had shown symptoms of dehydration, likely after failing to drink enough water during the hot weather.
