Germany's Merkel calls on Japan to reconcile with neighbours

German Chancellor Angela Merkel called on Japan Monday to improve relations with its neighbours, amid rising territorial and historic tensions, dpa reported.
'The important thing is to attempt to seek out a peaceful resolution,' she said in reference to Japan's ties with China and Republic of Korea.
Germany had reconciled with its own World War II foes because it 'squarely faced its past,' Merkel said in the question-and-answer session after her lecture at the Hamarikyu Asahi Hall in Tokyo.
'There was also tolerance on the part of our neighbour,' she said, referring to France.
